Giving FAQs

Why We Give

As a church, we believe that we are called to respond to the generosity of the gospel by giving extravagantly to the progress of the gospel in our community and world. Biblical generosity is not about meeting budget needs. It is about a rich and trusting relationship with a living God. We express our faith and love to Him by honoring Him as the source of everything we have. Scriptural giving is performed with regularity, from the first portion of all we are given, as a proportion of our income, cheerfully, and without pressure or manipulation.

Ways To Give

There are several ways that you can give:

  • Online Giving: Visit the giving section of our website⠀
  • Mobile Giving: Text Give2SPU to 73256⠀
  • Mail Giving: Mail giving to St. Peter United Church of Christ, 9022 Long Point Rd. Houston, TX 77055

Who will know how much I pledge or give to the church?

Gifts to the church are held in strict confidence. The only person who knows how much you pledge or give to the church is the Financial Secretary. Our financial secretary records each gift that comes in and will send you a quarterly statement reflecting what has been received.

How much should I give?

"Each of you must give as you have made up your mind, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver." 2 Corinthians 9:7

Giving should be out of love, not compulsion. There is no one who will tell you how much you “need” to give, for it is your participation with our community that is most important to us. The concept of tithing, or giving away 10% of your income, was a principle, not a law or a doctrine, in the New Testament. Recognizing that there are many organizations and causes that we are called upon to support today, the concept of the “modern tithe” is helpful to some. The concept of the “modern tithe” is giving 5% of your income to the church and 5% of your income to other philanthropic efforts.
